Telling the Story of Cultural Heritage for Inclusive Growth

In September 2019, members of Nordicity’s London and Vancouver offices had the pleasure of attending the British Council’s Cultural Heritage for Inclusive Growth Global Team Meeting in Bogotá, Colombia. The gathering drew together representatives from British Council country office teams participating in the pilot program (i.e. Colombia, Vietnam, Kenya) - as well as local delivery partners - to share and reflect on progress to date, as well as to build greater knowledge and understanding of the activity taking place globally.

Earlier this year, the British Council commissioned Nordicity to conduct an evaluation of its Cultural Heritage for Inclusive Growth Programme, a 2 year global pilot. The evaluation covers programme activities in Vietnam, Kenya and Colombia, and involves fieldwork and inter-jurisdictional research and analysis with a view to informing other major program developments and future evaluations for the British Council. The Nordicity evaluation will ultimately inform the British Council's broader culture and development agenda and feed into its work in contributing towards the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The purpose of the impact evaluation is to learn lessons from the program on the potential of cultural heritage as a driver for sustainable and inclusive growth, as well as to inform the design and implementation of multi-region British Council programmes.

The Global Team Meeting in Bogotá was not only a chance to share challenges, successes, learning and stories of impact across the program, but a valuable opportunity to take a deeper look at the three unique country models, not only in terms of the delivery of activity, but the applications of various monitoring and evaluation tools that are people-led and exemplary of action research in progress.
